Bucket List
Adventures
After competing in Ironman races for the past decade, I made the decision
it was time for a new challenge. I wanted to step away from the
structured race environment, that at times felt more fierce than fun, and
immerse myself in a new adventure that fed my soul, along with testing
my physical limits.
During the height of the Pandemic I watched people flock to the Grand
Canyon National Park. It was one of the few places people could still go;
and in the absence of live events, athletes created an event for
themselves- Rim to Rim to Rim. It was a 45-mile hike and approximately
11,000 feet of elevation gain and descent. The challenge- Do it all in one
day! This adventure was quickly added to my bucket list.

I had tucked the idea away for
several years, waiting for the right
time, and I felt this was it! So, at
the start of 2025, I pitched the R3
Challenge to several of my friends
and
training
partners.
The
response was overwhelming, and
before long, I had compiled a
group of six strong female
athletes, all excited to Conquer
the Canyon with me! What was
once a long held 8pipedream9 was
finally going to become a reality!
The training block was different
than anything we had previously
prepared for, and we all tackled it
in a unique way. Some preferred
more time in the gym working on
strength. Some were training for
other endurance races that gave
them a high volume of miles and
time on their feet. As for me, I
frequented McKinney9s Erwin Park
and ran the trails and gravel road
around the area. But all of us
would agree, training in Dallas for
a hike in The Grand Canyon was
difficult. While we did our best to
simulate climbs, there is nothing
quite like it around here.
