Self-Care Aids for the Office
Ergonomic Mouse
Traditional desk mouse force the arm to rotate internally.
This position brings the shoulder towards the chest and
crosses the radius and ulna bones for long stretches of
time. With a mouse that puts the wrist in an anatomical
neutral position, there is less wrist fatigue and nerve
entrapment. The option of a roller ball keeps the arm in
one position, alleviating the constant arm movement and
shoulder blade flare.
Ergonomic Desk Chair
Desk chairs should place you squarely on your ischium
bones (sits bones), and encourage lumbar alignment. Think
outside the box when looking at chairs. There are creative
ways to support long periods of sitting that will lessen
back fatigue and allow proper lower body circulation.
Choose a chair that keep the knees at 90 degrees when
the feet are on the floor. Lumbar support will not be as
needed if the ischium is in the proper position!
Off the Desk Monitor Support
Ergonomic Keyboard
Monitors should be placed at eye level. Monitors that sit
on a desk top will typically force your line of sight down.
Bring the monitor to eye level for better head position
and less eye strain. When the eyes and head are upright,
it encourages the back to stay supported rather than
slumped forward.
Keyboards that allow the wrist and fingers to lay in a
naturally extended position from the elbow put less strain
on the elbow and the wrist. The internal rotation of the
shoulders creates the same issue to the wrist as a flat
mouse. Bringing the hands around a circular board or
separating the keyboard sections allows the wrist to sit in
a neutral position from the shoulder and elbow. This
reduces friction and nerve entrapment.
Under Desk Mobility
Mobility tools like an under the desk bike pedal or a standing desk walk pad allow the lower body to keep a movement
pace that continues to push blood and lymph fluid through the circulation system. This action will actually keep the
body from feeling desk fatigue and has the added benefit of keep you awake and energizes. No link to these machines
